Integrated Programme (IP) Chemistry Tuition

The IP Chemistry track moves quickly, going past memorisation and into an accelerated curriculum that demands high-level analytical thinking. That’s exactly where our IP Chemistry tuition will take you, helping you tackle more complex and data-based questions with confidence.

One of the key ways we do this is by connecting the dots across topics so that you can see the “big picture”. This helps build a strong foundation for school assessments while preparing students for more advanced Chemistry content in the later years of the IP programme, and eventually for A-Level Chemistry.

Curriculum and materials specifically designed for the conceptual depth and advanced thinking of the IP curriculum
Small group lessons for in-depth coverage and individualised attention
Lessons recorded and shared with students as a personal resource bank for self-paced revision

Comprehensive IP Chemistry Tuition for Year 3 to 4 Students

Programme curriculum and lesson materials are personally developed by Mr Chan, our Head Tutor, drawing on 30 years of experience in both MOE and private tuition settings.

Lessons are delivered by a team of accredited tutors who each bring more than 10 years of school teaching and tutoring experience. NIE-trained and MOE-trained, our teachers stay updated with the latest school syllabus updates and assessment requirements across IP schools.

This expertise ensures all lessons stay strictly aligned with evolving IP learning outcomes. Our tutors help you manage increasingly complex concepts by chaining topics together and making the transition through the IP programme as seamless as possible.

IP Year 3 Chemistry Tuition

Year 3 is where you build the analytical muscle needed for the IP track, and our tutor will be your personal trainer for the task. We’ll focus on strengthening your core understanding through structured examples, so you can develop the ability to interpret data and handle application-based questions early on.

Key topics covered in Year 3 Chemistry:

  • Experimental Chemistry: Understanding the basics of measurements and laboratory apparatus and techniques.

  • Kinetic Particle Theory: Understanding the different states of matter and how particles interact at the microscopic level.

  • Atomic Structure: Diving into the structure of an atom, progressing into the fundamentals of chemical compounds and structures.

  • Chemical Bonding: Integrating prior knowledge of kinetic particle theory and atomic structure to understand how compounds are formed, and how physical and chemical changes occur and are affected by their types of bonding.

  • Mole Concept and Calculations: Quantifying the amount of reactants used and products formed in a chemical reaction.

  • Acids and Bases: Understanding how certain chemicals, such as acids and bases, react with one another and with other substances. Hands-on experiments may be conducted to deepen learning experience to allow students to relate what they learn in theory to their everyday lives.

  • Salts and Qualitative Analysis: Essential aspect of experimental chemistry, to be able to identify presence of certain substances through chemical tests.

  • The Periodic Table: Understanding how elements are arranged in the periodic table, their trends in physical and chemical properties.

IP Year 4 Chemistry tuition

In Year 4, we level up by integrating concepts across topics to tackle more complex scenarios. That means focusing on structured reasoning and analytical logic so you’ll be ready for higher-order questions in tests and assessments.

Key topics covered in Year 4 Chemistry:

  • Redox Reactions: Understanding another specific type of chemical reactions between a selected group of chemicals known as reducing and oxidising agents.

  • Reactivity Series: Understanding the behaviour of metals, and integrating prior knowledge from Secondary 3 on acids and bases, qualitative analysis, periodic table and redox reactions.

  • Electrochemistry: Integrating applications of redox and reactivity series to see how chemical energy can be converted to electrical energy, and vice versa.

  • Chemical Energetics and Rates of Reactions: Quantifying how much energy a chemical reaction can produce, and how quickly it can occur.

  • Organic Chemistry: Bringing chemistry to life through relating everyday organic compounds to theoretical chemical reactions.

“Mr Chan taught me Chemistry in JC and I really enjoyed his lessons. He had put in commendable effort in the planning of his curriculum, and his flexible style of teaching catered to different types of learners. An approachable teacher, he is always welcoming of any academic questions and eager to answer them. One of Mr Chan’s best traits is his patience — he is always able to clarify our doubts without any hint of annoyance and encourages us to ask more questions. Mr Chan has helped me tremendously in Chemistry throughout my JC journey and I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for an effective Chemistry tutor!”

"Xin Wei tutored my eldest son for A level Chemistry in 2019. My son only scored B3 grading for his O level Chemistry but with Xin Wei's excellent coaching and guidance, he managed to score a distinction (A) for his A level Chemistry. Xin Wei recently started tutoring my second son who is in JC 1 and he has already started doing well in Chemistry. Kudos to Xin Wei for being such an excellent tutor!"

"Back in school, i always use to look forward to Mr Chans class. I used to have the common stereotype that chemistry is boring with so many equations and formulas to remember. I couldnt have been more wrong!Mr Chan somehow manages to turn all his lessons into an exciting learning adventure, truly making chemistry come alive in front of all of us fortunate to be under him! Even if we do not immediately grasp certain concepts explained, he would take the extra time to go through them personally till we understand the concepts fully!Besides being an amazing teacher, Mr Chan is an exceptional person and role model. I can firmly say that being in his class has made me a better person and has shaped me to who i am today. So definitely do hit him up and watch the magic of chemistry come alive! Anyone would be privileged to have been taught by him."

"Mr Chan has been my Chemistry teacher for 2 years now, guiding me through my sec 3 and 4 years. have enjoyed all of his detailed and engaging lessons thus far. Thanks to him, I realised that Chemistry is not that difficult as what most may expect and have attained constant A1s for my Chemistry examinations. If not for him, I might still be stuck with the D7 grade I attained in sec 2's end of vear examination."

"All of us who have been taught by Mr Chan would agree that his learning materials and teaching expertise is nothing short of outstanding. But what makes Mr Chan such an exceptional educator is his unrelenting adaptability and patience. Even in my most clueless of times, Mr Chan never showed any signs of irritation or frustration, instead doing everything in his power to guide me through whatever I was having troubles with. Mr Chan would never give up on any of his students, and invariably makes himself available for any of us to approach him with any doubts. With his frequent encouragements, Mr Chan was able to help every single one of us, regardless of academic standard, build our confidence, making us always feel comfortable to ask for help. I would like to especially recommend Mr Chan for his IB EE and IA mentorship, for I attribute much of my successes in these projects to him. Under Mr Chan’s unfaltering guidance throughout my 2 years of IB, I managed to score a 92 for HL chemistry, as well as an A for my chemistry EE."
